Carl’s Ice cream, baby! April 13, 2008

For four lovely years of my life I lived in Fredericksburg, VA while attending mary washington college and the absolute best place to satisfy one’s sweet tooth has to be Carl’s Ice cream. I went back to town for a chemistry reunion this weekend and a trip to Carl’s was a must!

I don’t know how they make this stuff, but it is the most creamy deliciousness this side of the mississippi!

chicken and rice…royale! April 11, 2008

Last night’s dinner was impeccably simple (and cheap!) and was perfect for our rush to get out the door to get to class, film class (no less!) to see the updated Casino Royale. And apparently in some way that movie has ties to feminist theories…but OH YUM Daniel Craig. (he was definitely “dessert”!)

And also apparently from my redundant dinner colorings, I like orange, white and green things!

tasty tasty brewer’s April 9, 2008

yay for tasty tasty cow! I took my mentor on his first trip ever to Brewer’s Art and we had our share of resurrections, ozzie’s and delirium tremens…BUT we also had some scrumptious meat and rosemary garlic french fries!

All I can say is, there are no better fries on this earth to go with a delicious burger as this!

bissy day cake April 9, 2008

Since Dad came over for dinner and I had ten minutes to spare while dinner was cooking I figured I could whip up some kind of dessert (in order to have a proper lovely little feast) in the meantime!

I have an ancient cookbook that my mom presumably got as a wedding present and every once in a while I take a gander!

I was looking in the cake section and found the “Busy Day Cake” and it had like 6 ingredients and a short directions list so I was sold! I told my dad I was making this cake and he misheard me and thought I was pronouncing my nickname (given to me at age 2 by my dear cousin martha, age 1!) + day cake, alas my title!

Well it is scrumptious and to top it off I made a cream cheese and chocolate frosting! :-D

orange honey glazed carrots April 8, 2008

Well these carrots have been sitting in my fridge for about 2 weeks so today it was finally about time to put them in our tummies! But only in a delicious way of course.

I had a slight recollection of a recipe being in Barefoot at Home and alas I was correct!

This is my best tasting old standby! My original inspiration came from Ina, but now I just wing it!

Yesterday I decided to make it in an easier (and probably slightly healthier) way…

Tomato, Broccoli & Leek Soup April 3, 2008

Well let me just start off saying this looked like mush! But it does have a nice delicate taste. :-) and we made some salmon too, with sesame seeds and a bit of that left over Wegmans Asian Barbecue sauce! Much better than just plain salmon!  Anyways, onward to the soup recipe…

oh no! your muffin top is showing! April 1, 2008

Little sister Laura was lamenting to me last week about how hungry she gets during the school day at college (even after eating the nutritious lunch that I make her!) and that she forks over like 3 bucks for a muffin every afternoon.

I resolved to solve that dilemma for this week!

Alas, we like cranberries. We like chocolate. ‘Ala muffin!’ (in the voice of Mark Dacascos)
