Orange & Chocolate Madeleines

January 23, 2009 at 12:00 am | Posted in Dessert | 8 Comments

These delightful french treats were made especially for my Auntie Helen‘s 48th Birthday! Who can deny the amazingness of the combination of orange and chocolate? Not I! They are incredibly moist and delicate cookies and with the decadent dark chocolate, they are surely going to be gobbled up pronto!

I was trying to think of a sweet little foodie gift for my auntie (who by the way is one of my biggest blog cheerleaders and I am SO THANKFUL for that) and this recipe popped into my head. I wanted to bring it to the next level and thats where the chocolate came in!

The madeleine delivery service was in full action last night, and from what I gathered, these turned out great! Check out the recipe below and a precious photo of her. πŸ˜€ Happy Birthday Auntie!

This was taken at Fort McHenry in 1963? on the Fourth of July!

Ingredients:

1 egg
1/4 cup sugar
1/8 tsp salt
1/4 cup flour, sifted
1/4 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp of clementine zest
2 tbsp butter, melted and cooled
1/2 cup dark chocolate

Directions:

1) Whip up egg, sugar and salt for about 5 minutes until light in color, full and frothy.
2) Add in extracts and mix well.
3) Add flour and mix slowly until just incorporated.
4) Pour in half of the butter and fold. The pour in the rest and fold.
5) Smear room temp butter all over pan and dust with flour, preheat oven to 375 deg C.
6) Add about 1/2 tbsp to each spot and cook for about 9 minutes until they are springy.
7) Melt chocolate over double boiler.
8 ) Once finished baking, invert over a wire rack (mine fell out immediately!).
9) Dip into chocolate, let cool and ENJOY! πŸ˜€
