Birthday Parties and Waiting Games

September 17, 2012 at 9:30 pm | Posted in Dessert, Entertainment, Travels | 1 Comment

Well happy middle of September folks! How the heck did that happen! Oh that’s right…. I was so overwhelmed by birthday weekend awesomeness and trying to prevent a cold from overwhelming my immune system, that I thought it would be okay to ignore this space for a little while. Pretty soon, I knew I would get a inquisitive post from KT wondering why I wasn’t blogging :D. Love you Katers. The other reason I ignore this space sometimes is that when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed from playing the waiting game or other life stress, I find it better to not write about it publicly. Just like with facebook, I like to use these public spaces to write about the joy going on in my life, rather than the annoying parts. Some people we all know would rather use facebook to complain, etc. But I don’t want to be those people!

Anyways, today I would like to share that fun Saturday from my birthday weekend and other fun news in terms of the waiting game. I don’t know if this would classify as the waiting game, but playing the field for a good year (or ten years if you really think about it) yielded me one great boyfriend. Jason is tall, kind, friendly, super nerdy smart and sweet to me. There are no promises on what the future holds, but for right now I have someone wonderful to spend my time with. The other news relates to that secret project from a couple of weeks ago. One snippet of good news came from that last week and another little snippet today. It might be a month to see what the outcome is, but I am counting my lucky stars right now that my hard work is paying off. So yes, there is much joie de vivre going on!!

You like my sign? I saw this one a long time ago and thought I could do a good enough version myself. ๐Ÿ˜€ย  Oh the space I rented at Black Ankle was just perfect for that day. It was pretty warm out so I’m glad we had a nice space in the shade and a lovely time to drink wine (thanks for that Auntie and BLT!) and feast on everyone’s creations.

Go for the jump to see more happy fun that day…

Me and some of my girls. ๐Ÿ˜€ They were like my birthday maids! Making such delicious food and helping me setup and clean up!

Here are some of the things I labored on to decorate that day. Chocolate chip cookies with cute confetti tags and carnation centerpieces with gold sparkle and crepe paper vases. ๐Ÿ˜€

I also made a bunch of these hanging flag decorations.

I neglected to take that many pictures of the food. There was too much fun with people and wine drinking to be had! But in summary ๐Ÿ™‚ there was good cheese, grapes, more fruit, a big ol fresh salad, apricot bites, shrimp cocktail, fresh veggies with spinach dip, a cucumber and pita bread salad, fresh home made bread, strawberry and goat cheese crostinis, and there were these herb, goat cheese and corncake bites, made with love from Auntie Helen. The feast that day was a labor of love from all my loved ones! Oh how we feasted!!!

And for the dessert, I made chocolate madeleines and Joanne made chocolate and cheesecake stuffed strawberries. oh my yum!!

After the celebrations at Black Ankle, we got take out from Black Hog BBQ and then ate some of the beautiful pink cake given to my by my roommate and opened up my fancy bottle of pink champagne! It was the best tasting champagne I’ve ever had!!

And what to my surprise, Jason and Sista waited up with me for a SURPRISE visit from Gina, Jon and Allie Pie from CHICAGO!!!! We drank the rest of the champagne once they arrived!

I will have to be back later this week to post about my meal at Founding Farmer’s and Abuelita’s and other delicious things I ate that weekend. Hope you all have had a good start to the week too!
