A long time coming…

June 7, 2015 at 7:26 pm | Posted in Dessert | Leave a comment

Life these days is consisting of quality time with my someone very special and mi familia. Not so much cooking, but still lots of photography and fun events.

I think I originally started this blog to document my joys in life. It’s funny how you find yourself in a totally new scenario every couple of years and the joy is different but always very good.

My life has taken a turn onto a path with someone especially good at soaring over the jumps and holding on tight in the curves. It will be fun to see how this path winds. 😁

Five Years.

Here I sit in one of the most French laden establishments in Baltimore. Patisserie Poupon! I’ve been here before when my fancy camera was still exciting and novel and took some fun pictures.

This post is all about reflection. Two days from now is Five Years of Strawberries in Paris. It has been a sweet, fun, fast paced, sorrowful and joyful ride.

It’s amazing how much I have grown up in five years. I finally feel like my head is on straight and my priorities are falling into place as they finally should be. Hard work, good health, lots of love to and from my family and cherished times with my true friends. There really is one word to sum it all up: Gratitude.

I am grateful for all of this. I’m grateful for the energy I have to keep on going. I’m grateful for my readers and my supporters. I’m grateful that my cousin is two miles from here in the best hospital in the world and is healing slowly but surely. I’m grateful that I am finally in a place in my career when I can be sending emails at 11 pm for a clinical trial setup and have the biggest smile inside. The Lord takes us on a path and it is always much later do we see his reasons and wisdom.

I can’t wait to see where I am in 5 more years. But there is no rushing that!

So if you are reading this, I hope you as well can have some time today to sit back and see how things have changed in the past five years for yourself. I hope that your ride has also been amazing, not necessarily happy at all times, but still amazing.

Birthday Parties and Waiting Games

September 17, 2012 at 9:30 pm | Posted in Dessert, Entertainment, Travels | 1 Comment

Well happy middle of September folks! How the heck did that happen! Oh that’s right…. I was so overwhelmed by birthday weekend awesomeness and trying to prevent a cold from overwhelming my immune system, that I thought it would be okay to ignore this space for a little while. Pretty soon, I knew I would get a inquisitive post from KT wondering why I wasn’t blogging :D. Love you Katers. The other reason I ignore this space sometimes is that when I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed from playing the waiting game or other life stress, I find it better to not write about it publicly. Just like with facebook, I like to use these public spaces to write about the joy going on in my life, rather than the annoying parts. Some people we all know would rather use facebook to complain, etc. But I don’t want to be those people!

Anyways, today I would like to share that fun Saturday from my birthday weekend and other fun news in terms of the waiting game. I don’t know if this would classify as the waiting game, but playing the field for a good year (or ten years if you really think about it) yielded me one great boyfriend. Jason is tall, kind, friendly, super nerdy smart and sweet to me. There are no promises on what the future holds, but for right now I have someone wonderful to spend my time with. The other news relates to that secret project from a couple of weeks ago. One snippet of good news came from that last week and another little snippet today. It might be a month to see what the outcome is, but I am counting my lucky stars right now that my hard work is paying off. So yes, there is much joie de vivre going on!!

You like my sign? I saw this one a long time ago and thought I could do a good enough version myself. 😀  Oh the space I rented at Black Ankle was just perfect for that day. It was pretty warm out so I’m glad we had a nice space in the shade and a lovely time to drink wine (thanks for that Auntie and BLT!) and feast on everyone’s creations.

Go for the jump to see more happy fun that day…

A Perfect Strawberry Filled 30th Birthday

September 3, 2012 at 5:13 am | Posted in Dessert, Entertainment | 6 Comments

Here it is! 30 has come today and now I am officially old. 😀

Pinterest found this gem for me. I love it.

I am so thankful for my life. I’m so thankful to the family who raised me, to the friends who I’ve loved along my path, I’m thankful for my setbacks in life. They have made me who I am.

This is something I want to work on more. Listening to myself. And I need to adhere to this statement more too: Who cares if you fail! There will always be people to pick me up! And it will continue to shape me into a wholesome person! Here’s to 30 years of reckless unabashed living!!!

Can you tell I’ve been having the best weekend ever!!!!

Happy Labor Day Everybody!!!

Monday Night Baking Night

August 27, 2012 at 10:19 pm | Posted in Dessert | 1 Comment

Cookies. It was a cookie filled evening tonight. 😀 120 to be exact! A double batch of this NY Times recipe. Which I have made here and here. It has kinda become a staple “favor” recipe for me and people go bonkers for it, so what’s not to love! Looking up that old link reminded me that I called my 27th birthday celebration at Woodberry Kitchen a LoveFeast. Well a LoveFeast is surely happening again this Saturday at Black Ankle. Even though I will be 2 days shy of 30 years old, it is going to be a grand celebration. I mean, look at this place. HEAVEN. and then there will be salted chocolate chip cookie favors. 😀

Anyways, I baked and I baked. Phone calls to Jen-Jen, Momma, and Abuelita kept me entertained as I skedaddled along. It helped having made the dough last night. Actually this recipe CALLS for that. Helps the gluten relax or some s**t like that. 😀

In addition to working on that “secret” project this weekend, I made sure I spent some good time doing things I actually enjoy. 🙂 Like making these tags for the cookie favors! A glimpse of this is just one little detail I have in store for the decorations of the breezeway on Saturday! Ahhhhh I can’t wait!!!

The other thing that has been keeping me entertained, has also been costly. 😛 I’ve been shopping!! On the Lilly Pulitzer website (sales baby!). As you can see below, the prints are soooooo pretty.

and I’ve been shopping around downtown Frederick. 😀 Took back some things to Talbots and scored a major deal on these pink patent pumps! 80% off the normal price! Then hopped over to Viniferous and picked up the bottle of rose that I had special ordered for me. They gave me a nice little birthday discount! So sweet- thanks Luke! And I hope I won’t have buyers remorse when the girls and I savor this baby after Black Ankle on Saturday!

And I decided that I needed to start reading again. Hours of Bravo and Lifetime movies just aren’t cutting it for me. The Paris Wife seems pretty good so far!  So other than this latest music addition…. I’ll be sending my baby secret project into cyberspace tomorrow, if you have a second, send some good vibes that way. It’s gonna take all I can to get that thing to work!

Here’s to Crazy Exciting Mondays and Weekends!

July 16, 2012 at 7:00 am | Posted in Brunch, Dessert, Entertainment, Pinterest | 2 Comments

What’s up peeps!!  Of course I am writing this on Sunday night, but had a great weekend full of lots of fun times and now I am psyched to hit something out of the ballpark today. Channel me some strength today, will ya??? And after this daring feat, I will reward myself with some blackbeary wheat and a vacation to Vermont on Wednesday!!  I stole this from Pinterest… good quote eh?

Delicious Ambiguity. Now that I have overcome so many issues in the past year I am absolutely loving my delicious ambiguity. I am relishing in it actually! My life is an open book and I am thrilled, absolutely thrilled to see what the next year brings.

So yeah about the weekend? It started off with these…

then had some fun times at this place,

had an awesome cookbook club at my house and ended off the weekend with good home cooking (including chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast, yummmm) and a sweet hike up in Catoctin.

Here’s hoping you have a great week too!!

Special Banana Bread Delivery for Alicia

July 13, 2012 at 6:59 pm | Posted in Dessert, Entertainment | Leave a comment

Happy Friday evening everybody!! This post will be short and sweet. I got too distracted all day to attend to this baby. My old buddy Alice celebrated her birthday yesterday. Because I couldn’t drop by her place in Baltimore, I sent her a nice care package! I swear making care packages weekly is something that gives me so much joy! Last week I sent one to my cousin Marfi for her new house! 😀

I went to the new cookbook from Joy the Baker to find a suuped up banana bread recipe! And I made a teeny banana bread for me and Jenn to taste. Tasted good to me! Probably the tastiest I have ever made. 😀 And two songs for ya’ll… Love this song. I am totally channeling woman warrior these days in taking care of my life. And it’s working!

And this one from NEEDTOBREATHE. Just bought tickets this morning for their September show at Rams Head in Baltimore! Can’t wait!

Fun Nights at Family Meal

July 9, 2012 at 11:38 pm | Posted in Dessert, Dinner | 3 Comments

Well Happy Monday to everyone! Mine turned out happier and much more productive than I could have ever imagined and here I am actually writing a blog post on a Monday. Hot Damn! So aren’t I a lucky girl to live within walking distance of the new Volt restaurant (actually diner…)- Family Meal. And I have been there two times already! I slowly watched this old car dealership be transformed into a really cool space over the past 7 months. It has been awesome.

Bryan Voltaggio is so dedicated to his hometown of Frederick and that is shining through more and more with everything he does.  I had a nice date night with a man I would like to affectionately call J-dogg on a Saturday night and I took the Abuelitos for an early Sunday Supper yesterday! Go for the jump to see my iPhone pictures which turned out great.
